Dr. Lynch’s teaching is deep in the literature and research and backed by years of hands on clinical experience working with children and families.  Her teaching comes straight from the heart and you will find her passion and love the world contagious!   She uses videos, participation labs, practical application and case studies for an interactive learning experience.  She has extensive experience teaching at a university level and leading groups of students and therapist in international settings seeing occupational deprivation among the compassionate people who are working in extreme situation.  Her teaching is enlightening, inspiring and not to be missed!

Learning Objectives /Outcomes

1. To understand trauma as defined in terms of Adverse Childhood Experiences: who is at risk, what are the lifespan impacts upon physical, mental health, and occupational outcomes upon those who have experienced trauma  2. To advance knowledge about the impact of trauma on neurobiology, regulation, cognitive, developmental skill (motor, language, social) emergence, and relational skills. 3. To understand how trauma effects children and adults in daily activity participation in home, school, community, and outpatient clinic settings.   4. To understand Trauma Informed Care (TIC) principles and intervention strategies which support better outcomes for  people who have experienced trauma 5. To enhance self reflective practice related to trauma informed care of professionals in educational settings.  6. To develop competence in knowledge aligned with a shift in beliefs to change practice strategies utilizing trauma informed care principles.

About the presenter

Dr. Amy Lynch is an associate professor in the School of Public Health in the Occupational Therapy Department at Temple University and an OT at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.    Postdoctoral training has included intensive training and an approved Educator status of Trust Based Relational Intervention (TBRI ®  – Dr. Karyn Purvis, Texas Christian University) and Phase 1 certification in the NMT measure (Bruce Perry, Child Trauma Academy).  She has presented regionally, nationally, and internationally in topics including but not limited to: trauma, early adversity, attachment, feeding, sensory integration, NDT, family occupations, international/domestic adoption and foster care, international adoption medicine, and developmental care.  She is also a parent to 2 amazing children who began their lives in institutional settings, so she understands the impact of trauma deeply both through personal and professional experiences..

Mindfulness Training

Daily mindfulness experiences will be offered including yoga and meditation while other forms are worked seamlessly into the day.

Farm to Table Meals

2 delicious dinners and 5 nutritious lunches are provided by the resident chef.  Daily continental breakfast provided. 2 nights to explore local fair.

Pamper Package

Eco friendly and sustainable toiletries, coffee, tea and lemon and mint water. The little things to make your stay oh so sweet!

Exercise

Daily yoga will be offered on site.  Guided run or fitness walk. Swim in the ocean or try a SUP board.  Choose what makes you smile.

4 Restful Nights

Shared or private room to rest your head at night.  Glow from the sunset, lul of the waves and heavy ocean air, sweet dreams.

Post-Retreat Learning

5 online sessions lead by Dr. Lynch discussing application of learning to your clients, what worked, what can we change. Lets problem solve together!

Daily Activities

Body surf or SUP board.  Read a book, relax by the sea, drink a hot coffee!  Sunset cruise and optional  kayak through the wetlands.

Airport Shuttle

Shuttle service to and from Myrtle Beach airport on 7/21 and 7/25. Parking avalible for those who drive.

What are the different room options?

Rooms are unique, the private rooms are for those that need a little extra privacy or time for themselves.  The shared room is for anyone who is open to sharing a bedroom with their own individual bed.  Private rooms may be shared.  Contact kim@boutiquelearningexperience  for details and pricing. 

How many contact hours will I receive?

There will be a total of 18 contact education hours during the retreat.  A certificate of attendance will be awarded at the end of the retreat for hours attended.  A letter will be provided detailing the hours of training received and what was taught in those hours that can be given to your employer or kept in your continuing education file.  There will be an additional 5 hours of online training and discussion that will be held throughout the year online.  It is the responsibility of the licensee to determine if the course meets all of the content requirements or restrictions imposed by an individual’s licensing board.

 

How many people will be attending this retreat?

For developing a community and indidulaized attentionof therapists there will be 12 attendees.

What if I have food allergies, dietary restrictions?

Please communicate any food allergies or restrictions prior to arrival.  Accommodations will be made to the best of our ablilty.  There will be access to the kitchen and refrigerator if needed.

What if I have special needs or circumstances?

How should I schedule my retreat arrival and departure?

Check-in to the bungalows begins at 4pm.  The retreat begins with a welcome meeting the first evening at 5:30 pm with welcome dinner and orientation. It wraps up late morning Saturday for a 11 pm departure.   Please make sure you are able to secure flights that allow you to be present for all activities so we can keep the group in connection from start to finish.  Myrtle Beach airport is the closest airport. If purchasing flights we strongly advise trip insurance.  We will arrange pick up from the airport on 7/21.

What if I’m not an advanced practitioner? May I still join?

The presentation is for beginning practitioners to advanced!  We all bring something to the table and learn from each other! 

Are there payment plans available?

Yes! A non-refundable $500 dollar deposit will be necessary upon initial booking to reserve your space.  At time of deposit just let us know you would like a payment plan and the remainder will be divided over the remaining months prior to commencement of the retreat.   Otherwise full tuition will be required 45 days prior to arrival.  After that time there will be no refunds.

Can I share a room with a friend?

There is a discount to book with a friend!  If you would like to share a private room you will save! Please note these rooms only have one bed.  The private rooms will be limited so book early!
